Roof ShovelingServicesLoad Relief.

Heavy snow load removal, ice dam relief, roof rake clearing, and eave clearing — roof-safe techniques to prevent structural stress and water intrusion. Kennebunk & Southern Maine.

The Overview

Protect Your Home From Heavy Snow & Ice Dams

Maine winters can pack feet of heavy, wet snow on your roof, adding thousands of pounds of structural load. As indoor heat leaks into the attic, snow melts and refreezes at cold eaves, creating massive ice dams that back up under shingles and cause costly ceiling leaks.

Black Apex Development provides specialized roof shoveling and rake clearing across Southern Maine. Using roof-safe plastic tools, fall protection safety harnesses, and professional techniques, we clear snow loads down to a protective buffer layer without damaging shingles or flashing.

How It Goes

The Roof Shoveling Process

01

Roof & Load Evaluation

We evaluate pitch, snow depth, density, roof material, and vulnerable features like skylights and vents.

02

Ground & Fall Protection Setup

We mark safety drop zones below and anchor OSHA-compliant fall protection harnesses before stepping onto the roof.

03

Top-Down Snow Removal

Using plastic-edge shovels and specialized roof rakes, snow is removed in layers from peak down to eaves.

04

Shingle Buffer Layer

We deliberately leave a 2-to-3-inch protective layer of hardpack snow to ensure shovel edges never scrape shingles or tear granules.

05

Eave & Vent Clearing

Ridge vents, plumbing stacks, chimney areas, and eaves are cleared to restore airflow and prevent ice dam backups.

06

Good Questions

Roof Shoveling FAQ

How do I know if my roof needs to be shoveled?
If you notice over 12 to 18 inches of dense snow, heavy icicles forming along eaves, sticky interior doors, or fresh wall/ceiling water spots, your roof is experiencing structural load stress or ice damming.
Will shoveling damage asphalt shingles or roof flashing?
Not when done professionally. We never use metal shovels or pickaxes, and we deliberately leave a thin layer of snow buffer over shingles to avoid tearing granules or lifting flashing.
Why shouldn't I try to shovel my own roof?
Roof shoveling is one of the most dangerous winter home maintenance tasks. Falling from slick roofs or getting struck by sliding snow leads to serious injuries. Our crew uses certified safety rigging, ladders, and safety harnesses.
Do you clear the snow that lands on my driveway and walkways after dropping it from the roof?
Yes. We secure perimeter drop zones before we start and clean up all dropped snow from walkways and entryways before leaving your property.
What areas do you serve?
We’re based in Kennebunk and work throughout Southern Maine — Kennebunkport, Wells, Biddeford, Saco, Arundel, and Portland. Not sure if you’re in range? Give us a call.
